Use Your GPU To Join The Fight Against Covid-19
We are all doing our bit to help prevent the spread of Covid-19. Most of us are working remotely and practising social distancing. If you are looking to take a more proactive role, the answer may be here. You won’t have to leave your home. You can use your computer to help researchers analyse data about Covid-19
NVIDIA recently put out a call for their Gaming PC users to use their unused computational resources to help the open science community in their research.
A project by Stanford University, Folding At Home “uses our computing power to help study the process of protein folding to aid research on various diseases, including many forms of cancer, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s. Right now, we’re focusing on Covid-19/Coronavirus as well!”
Install a small program onto your computer. As a result, the program downloads small amounts of data, analyses it and then returns the results to the Stanford researchers.
To get started, visit the Folding At Home SubReddit here or the Folding At Home website here.
At the time of writing, I’m powering up my personal MacBook Pro to pitch in.
