Principal Software Engineer                                                           

I am currently recruiting for a Principal Software Engineer, my client is an established but growing software company originating from San Francisco and have recently formed an Engineering Hub in Dublin. The successful candidate will be joining an office that is growing its Irish presence and is the cornerstone of future engineering of the company.

They are making significant investments in its product to ensure it stays at the forefront of their industry and are facing many exciting scaling challenges such as building a robust platform where expertise can be applied to areas such as billing, payments, subscription services, security, operability, and observability to name a few. 

This is a permanent role based in Dublin and will come with a great degree of flexibility with a mixture of working from home and office based an option if required. In addition, you will receive a very competitive salary and excellent benefits.

Responsibilities of the Principal Software Engineer

  • Leading and contributing to the development and design of core payments system.
  • Working on payments systems to process high volume transactions with low latency.
  • Involved in pair and mob programming. Working across many functions and be a key decision maker and influencer.
  • Writing code day to day and shipping to production multiple times a day.
  • Owning what you create, you design and build the product you will support the product.
  • Responsible for delivering to production, no hand offs to an ops team.
  • Mentoring team members, be mentored and involved in assembling a shared knowledge system.
  • Handling Infrastructure as code, contributing to making the infrastructure fully automated, simple, reliable, and easy to operate.

What you need:

  • 3+ years ‘experience working in systems handling high volume financial transactions.
  • Minimum Level 8 Degree in Computer Science or other similar discipline.
  • Ability to build software end to end, whether its frontend, backend or the glue that holds it all together.
  • Experience around AWS services, CI/CD tools like Jenkins and microservices knowledge is a big plus.
  • Ideally be code agnostic eg (Java +Python) or (Python + Node.js) or Java+PHP etc. (Product is now being fully built in Python but my client is open to solid engineers from different background who are open to working in Python.
