We are seeing an increase in pair programming during the interview process so this is a skill set that companies rank as extremely important.

Everyone knows that you need to test and debug your code to make sure it works properly but why is this important to employers?

If you constantly test your own code before releasing it, it shows that you care about the quality of your code. This also demonstrates that you are reliable and have a good work ethic.

Show That You Are A Problem-Solver!

Solving problems is at the core of almost all software engineer jobs. This is a vital skill that employers are really interested in.

A good way to approach this question is to show your passion for problem-solving and to give a few examples. Talking though exactly what you did, and how you overcame the issue, will give a good insight into how to work and think.

It’s also important to be able to communicate these complex ideas in an easy-to-understand way. Remember that the person or people to have the final say on hiring you may not be technically-minded at all. Being able to communicate well could also demonstrate your ability to lead a team and run a project effectively.

Be Passionate.

What passion projects are you working on? Are you a life-long learner? Do you go to meetups and events? Chatting about these things can really show that you eat, breathe and sleep code. People like to work with passionate, enthusiastic people so make sure this is known.
