Job description

Job Title: System Test Engineer

My client is looking for a talented System Test Engineer to join their ever growing team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Testing Strategy Development: Collaborate with product, development, and cross-functional teams to create and refine comprehensive testing strategies.
  • Test Planning and Execution: Design detailed test plans based on specifications and execute test cases using both automated and manual methods.
  • Issue Resolution and Integration: Investigate integration issues reported by partners and resolve problems identified during system testing; replicate issues internally and support the development team in finding solutions.
  • Issue Escalation: Report potential software, hardware, or resource issues to the Project Manager or executive team.
  • Testing Activity Management: Maintain thorough records of testing activities, including schedules, resources, requirements, defects, and resolutions to ensure alignment with key stakeholders.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and recommend improvements in test coverage and methodologies.
  • Release Oversight: Serve as the gatekeeper for releases, providing critical feedback and representing user perspectives.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree (Master's preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Experience: 5-8 years in embedded software, especially in sectors like data centers, networking, security, or cloud services.
  • Testing Methodologies: Strong understanding of test methodologies with hands-on experience in system-level testing of physical devices.
  • Embedded Software Development: Solid knowledge of embedded software development processes.
  • Linux and Scripting Skills: Proficiency in the Linux command line and shell scripting.
  • Networking Fundamentals: Solid grounding in networking fundamentals, ideally with experience in cybersecurity.
  • Requirements Analysis: Skilled in reviewing and challenging product requirements, design, and functional specifications; adept at defining test strategies and developing end-to-end test plans and cases.
  • Python Scripting: Proficient in developing, reviewing, and modifying Python scripts to enhance test coverage.
  • Automation Expertise: Experienced in designing and implementing test tools for automation and improving automation scripts.
  • Test Frameworks: Familiarity with frameworks like Pytest, Robot Framework, or similar.
  • Testing Tools: Proficiency with tools such as Vector CANoe, VehicleSpy, PEAK, Spirent, IXIA, or similar.
  • Project Tools: Experience with JIRA, Jenkins, or similar project management tools.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Networked Systems: Understanding of networked system infrastructures, including transitions from various communication protocols to Ethernet, and how different control units interact within these systems.
  • Cybersecurity Knowledge: Proficiency in cybersecurity.
  • Compliance Standards: Experience with design review and audit processes, including standards like ISO 26262 or similar.
  • Functional Safety: Expertise in testing for functional safety requirements based on recognized standards.
  • Test Bench Development: Experience in designing and constructing test benches to evaluate control unit functionalities and communication within systems.
  • Professional Networking: Ability to leverage networks to attract and recruit additional talent is highly valued.
