Job description

Enterprise / Solution Architect (FP&A Platform)

Location: Cork, Ireland

Overview

A growing engineering organization is developing a modern financial planning and analytics platform designed for financial institutions. The platform supports budgeting, planning, profitability analysis, and regulatory reporting, enabling finance and treasury teams to manage performance and risk through a unified system.

The engineering team responsible for the product is currently undergoing a major technology evolution, shifting toward cloud-native architecture, modern development practices, and increased use of AI-enabled engineering tools.

This role offers the opportunity to shape the architecture of a large-scale financial software platform while working closely with engineering leadership and product teams to modernize an established system.

Role Summary

The Enterprise / Solution Architect will be responsible for defining and implementing the architectural direction of a complex financial software platform. This position combines architectural leadership with hands-on engineering work.

Rather than functioning purely as a strategic or governance role, this position requires active participation in development, including writing code, validating architectural decisions through implementation, and guiding engineering teams through complex system design challenges.

The successful candidate will work across multiple product areas, ensuring systems are scalable, maintainable, and capable of supporting both mid-sized institutions and large enterprise clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Platform Architecture
  • Define and evolve the architecture across multiple financial software products, including domain boundaries, system integrations, data flows, and service interactions. Ensure the platform architecture supports long-term scalability and maintainability.
  • Hands-On Technical Leadership
  • Validate architectural designs through implementation. Build proof-of-concepts, reference components, and production-ready solutions that demonstrate architectural patterns for engineering teams to follow.
  • System Modernization
  • Lead the transition from legacy system architecture to modern cloud-native patterns. Design migration strategies that allow gradual modernization without disrupting existing customers or platform stability.
  • Scalability and Performance
  • Ensure the platform architecture supports large-scale workloads, capable of handling high volumes of financial data and complex analytical processing across multiple institutions.
  • AI-Driven Innovation
  • Identify opportunities where AI-powered capabilities can enhance financial analysis workflows, such as intelligent automation, anomaly detection, or natural language interaction with financial models.
  • Architectural Standards
  • Establish architectural patterns, design guidelines, and technical guardrails that enable engineering teams to build consistently and efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and scalability.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with engineering teams, platform specialists, data engineers, and product leadership to ensure architectural decisions align with broader product and technology strategy.

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering
  • 5+ years in architecture-focused roles such as Solution Architect, Enterprise Architect, or Principal Engineer
  • Proven experience designing and delivering distributed systems at scale
  • Demonstrated success modernizing legacy applications while maintaining production stability
  • Experience defining architectural standards adopted across engineering teams
  • Background in financial services or other regulated industries is beneficial

Technical Expertise

  • Candidates should have strong experience across modern application architecture and cloud-based platforms, including:
  • Advanced experience with .NET / C# and modern architectural patterns
  • Full-stack engineering capability including TypeScript and Angular
  • Cloud-native system design experience (Azure preferred, though other cloud platforms are transferable)
  • API architecture including versioning, contract management, and backward compatibility
  • Event-driven architecture and messaging patterns
  • Microservices design and service decomposition strategies
  • Database architecture and performance optimization for large-scale systems
  • CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation
  • Containerization and orchestration patterns
  • AI and Modern Development
  • The engineering organization embraces modern AI-assisted development practices. Candidates should have experience using AI development tools to enhance productivity and assist with software development workflows.
  • Familiarity with modern AI platform services, large language model integrations, or AI-powered product capabilities is a strong advantage.
  • Architectural Approach
  • The ideal candidate combines long-term architectural vision with practical delivery. They should be comfortable designing systems that allow engineering teams to move quickly while maintaining strong technical foundations.

Key qualities include:

  • Designing clear domain boundaries and system responsibilities
  • Enabling team autonomy through well-defined architecture
  • Balancing long-term platform strategy with incremental delivery
  • Making pragmatic technology decisions that support both growth and operational stability
  • What Success Looks Like (First Year)
  • A clear architectural roadmap for the platform's long-term evolution
  • Successful implementation of modern architectural patterns within the production system
  • Measurable progress in modernizing legacy components
  • Increased development velocity through improved architecture and clearer technical direction
  • Initial implementation or validation of AI-driven capabilities within the platform

What This Role Offers

  • Opportunity to architect and modernize a large-scale financial software platform
  • Significant influence on both technology direction and product capability
  • Close collaboration with senior engineering leadership
  • High antonomy in defining and implementing architectural decisions
  • A team environment that values modern engineering practices and innovation
